Usually a driver. Sometimes a driving iron on a brutal river day. We do not force a driver if you never trust it off the deck at Ocean View.

The roster room is a ticket counter, not a showroom
Walk up the Plume Street stairs and you will not see a wall of demo heads arranged by brand. You will see a long counter, a brass slot board numbered 01 to 14, and a chalkboard that tracks which way the river wind is running that morning.
What sits on the counter
Empty your bag onto the maple. Every head gets a paper flag. Green if you pulled it in the last five rounds. Brass if you are not sure. Navy if it has been a passenger. Passenger clubs do not get sympathy speeches. They get a hearing.
The slot board is physical. We slide engraved tags into berths the way a harbor master assigns piers. If two tags want the same number, that is a duel, and we schedule the duel instead of stacking both and pretending fourteen is a polite suggestion.
What does not sit here
There is no launch-monitor altar in the window. There is a bay in the back for the duels, but the public face of Bag Build is the ticket. People who want a loft matrix printed on card stock are welcome to shops that love that work. We love a cut list.
Norfolk golf is tree lines, naval housing fairways, wet morning air off the Elizabeth, and afternoon gusts that turn a ballooning 5-wood into a rumor. The room is built to talk about that, not about catalog lofts from a desert brochure.

The long fairway
3-wood or 5-wood. Tree corridors around Lambert’s Point often vote for the 5. Open municipal holes vote the other way.
The contested berth
Long iron, 7-wood, or driving iron. This is the argument the shop was founded to settle.
The iron spine
We do not invent a 2-iron romance. We count from the first iron you will actually take a full swing with.
Wedge census
Two, three, or four scoring clubs. Humidity and Bermuda grain around here make a fourth wedge a luxury that often steals a hybrid.
The putter berth
One. Not a blade and a mallet “for the other grain.” One name on the ticket.
Hours the counter is staffed
Monday through Friday the window runs 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Saturday is a short watch, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, mostly audits and gift tickets. Sunday the river gets the building.
Bring the bag you play
Leave the backup set in the car. If a club is not in the bag you walked the last municipal with, it is not on trial. Hold a slot or read the bag menu.
